In ancient Inca times, the Quechua people ingeniously built hanging bridges using natural plant fibers to connect neighboring communities across the challenging Andean terrain.

Among these, the Q’eswachaka Bridge is the only surviving living Inca legacy that is renewed annually. It is located near Cusco, Peru, and spans 29 meters in length and 1.20 meters in width.

Every June, local communities gather to collect the durable plant fiber known as q’oya, which is then meticulously processed and woven into ropes. The three-day effort to restore the bridge includes traditions and offerings to the revered Pachamama (Mother Earth) and the Apus (mountains).
