Itinerary Sillar Route

ITINERARY

09:00am – Pick up from your respective hotel. We begin our tour of the Sillar Route, a tourist route with a lot of history and living culture, where we will visit quarries and areas where the sillar (a type of volcanic rock) originated.

The first stop will be the Añashuayco Quarry; it is currently in operation,

operation, the stonecutters work from very early on; in the place we can see an immense canyon with

cliffs (walls of ignimbrite) that are several meters high, formed by the extraction for the formation of the

ashlar. At this point we will tell you the history of the ashlar, its elaboration and the use that has always been made of it.

In this quarry you will be able to see a Megastructure of the Church of the Society of Jesus made by the stonemasons themselves.

We will also be able to visit some of them so that they can explain to us what their daily work is like and we can

experience cutting one of their blocks of stone ourselves.

Then we will move on to the Quebrada de Culebrillas, which is 30 minutes away from

Añashuayco. Once we reach this point, we will take a 20-minute walk through the small canyon

formed by the passage of water, which has walls 15 to 20 meters high, while we go deeper into it, the walls

of the little canyon increase in height. At the end of the walk, we will be able to observe petroglyphs dating back to the

Wari culture more than a thousand years ago. Before returning to the city we will observe the Apachetas, which are formations of

stone placed one on top of the other that are a symbol of gratitude towards nature and also an attraction for

good luck, which causes a mystical sensation. 01:00pm – We will arrive at the center of Arequipa.
