Summary:

On this tour you will explore the impressive citadel of Machu Picchu. It starts early in the morning with transportation from your hotel to the town of Ollantaytambo, from where, on a scenic train ride, you will arrive in Aguas Calientes. In this town you will be welcomed by an expert guide who will give you all the pertinent indications.

Then, you will board the buses that lead to Machu Picchu and, arriving at the llaqta, you will receive a guided tour of the highlights of this archaeological wonder that lasts approximately two hours. After the tour, you will enjoy free time to have lunch and explore Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) before returning by train to Ollantaytambo and finally being transferred by bus back to Cusco. The tour offers mainly comfortable transportation, an experienced guide and the opportunity to discover one of Peru’s most emblematic destinations: Machu Picchu.

Itinerary:

DAY 01 FULL DAY

We start our experience with the pick up from your hotel from 2:30 to 3:00 am and then transfer to the train station in Ollantaytambo.

Price of trains to Machu Picchu

⚲ At 05:05 we will take the tourist train to the town of Aguas Calientes, this trip has a duration of 1:25 hrs approximately.
Upon arrival to Machu Picchu Pueblo or Aguas Calientes, our guide will be waiting for you in the main square with a sign where your names will be detailed, will give you a warm welcome and will give you all the indications of the tour as buses to Machu Picchu and entrance to the citadel.
The entrance time to Machu Picchu will be approximately 11:00 am (depending on availability). You will have a guided tour for 2 hours, making the tour of the most important points of the Machu Picchu llaqta.

⚲ At 13:00 hrs approx back to Aguas Calientes town, you will have free time to enjoy your lunch and explore Machu Picchu town on your own.

⚲ At 21:50 hrs approx. we will board the train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo town, arriving at 23:30 hrs.
Our transfer will take you to the bus to Cusco.
At approximately 1:00 am, you will be back in the city of Cusco, arriving at Plaza San Francisco or Plaza Regocijo (downtown Cusco).

What is the best time to visit Machu Picchu?

From June to August the weather is drier and travel is easier, but it is the best vacation time for people living in the northern hemisphere. It should not be forgotten that three important Peruvian festivities are celebrated during this period: Inti Raymi (June 24), Peru’s Independence Day (July 28) and Santa Rosa de Lima (August 30). These festivities involve large concentrations of Peruvian travelers, which translates into an increase in lodging prices and the influx of visitors. Prices and visitor numbers can drop dramatically from October to April. January is the rainiest month. For near-ideal weather and manageable visitation, consider August, September and October.

Is one day enough to visit Machu Picchu?

You can visit Machu Picchu on a full day tour, but it is best to spend the night in a hotel in Aguas Calientes. A full-day excursion allows you about six hours in Machu Picchu, coinciding with peak hours. If you plan to stay overnight, you will have more time to see the ruins after most visitors have left, or plan to revisit the citadel very early the next day.

Are there mosquitoes in Machu Picchu?

Mosquitoes in Machu Picchu can be annoying. Bring some repellent or mosquito spray to get rid of these insects.

Can I camp in the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu?

In 1983, UNESCO designated Machu Picchu a World Heritage Site. Since then, in order to preserve the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu, the Peruvian government has deployed strict measures and regulations that restrict the amount of time that can be spent in the citadel and require all visitors to be accompanied by an authorized tour guide, and due to its delicate nature it is not possible to camp inside Machu Picchu.
